BY ADOPTING THEM YOU SAVE THEIR LIVES!
|
We spot them at the backyards as they sneak past the walls, sometimes we are called by their desperate scream - homeless cats.....
Among them, there are some who, fed by good people, got used to living at large, but there are also those whose owners got rid of them and those whose owners passed away - homeless cats....
Sometimes they are saved from disease or danger by good people. When rescued and restored to health, they look for responsible owners. If they do not find them, they go to an animal shelter and there ......
Take a look inside an animal shelter. More than a dozen cats in a tiny room. On a stone floor. Old, young, healthy or ill cats. Having no contact with a human being, with no view of the world outside.
Please, do not sentence them to life imprisonment

"Special concern" cats for adoption
As we are a non-profit organization it means that all our expenses are covered by money from our own pockets or from donations of warm-hearted people.
We are not able to cover the costs of vaccination or medical treatment necessary in case of adopting a cat to another country. The adopting person would have to cover these costs on his/her own as well as the cost of transportation.
However you can sponsor a cat in a virtual way, sending some amount of money to cover his or her costs of living until the cat has found a real owner. In return you will get an update on how he or she is doing.
Here are some of our cats:
LAKI
This part of our site we would like to dedicate to a little kitten called LAKI.
A terrible virus attacked her little body with all its force. When she was found she was ill and blind. She was fighting for her life for a month. We were fighting by her side. So was the vet.
Injections and drips given every day. Feeding. Ointment and drops put into her running, severely ulcerated eyes.
Exhausted Laki puts her little head into a man's hand, silently crying. We cuddle her. We whisper comforting words into her ear. She purrs softly and falls asleep. This little thing, despite her poor condition, wanted to live. Her fragile little body weighing less than 30 decagrammes fought for life with all its power. In spite of ulcerated eyes, inflamed lungs, and heavy breath, there was a Giant's spirit in her little body. The spirit that fought desperately although the body did not accept the challenge
Our mutual battle ended after a month. In LAKI's case, it ended for ever. The last hours were full of despair and sorrow. LAKI lying on our lap, warmly covered. Calm and nestled in the lap of a man who was unable to help her.
In the suburbs of Cracow, on the outskirts of a forest, there is an oak tree. It is our LAKI's last resting- place. She remains in our memory and in our thoughts. We could not help her although we tried our best, regardless of the time, costs or anything. Her siblings survived. They won their fight and their lives go on: These are Mika and Daktyl who probably remember LAKI, this little, innocent, sweet black and while creature. She will stay in my memory for ever.

MIKA
MIKA - LAKI's sister. She was taken from the backyard two days later. She suffered from a cat flu. She had two balls instead of eyes and water in her lungs. There was a threat of insufficient blood circulation. The virus inside her was in full swing.
Everyday trips to the vet. Injections and drips. Ointments and drops for eyes. Feeding. She could not feed herself. After we had lost Laki we were trembling with fear that MIKI would not survive.
We succeeded although the treatment took almost half of the year and the virus reoccurred a couple of times.
Now MIKA is a beautiful lady, energetic and playful. She is a miracle in the cat's skin. Time, money and stress WERE ALL WORTH SACRIFICING!!!
Look yourself. Is not she lovely? We managed to create a beautiful cat female out of a four weeks little thing who was ill, suffering and unable to walk. Unfortunately the illness has left some traces. Sometimes she has slight movement disorder which, however, does not make her life difficult. She has already been spayed. Now after such a hard childhood she deserves a wonderful home and caring owners
DAKTYL
DAKTYL comes from the same backyard as LAKI and MIKA.
He was found two weeks later. We are not sure whether he was a resident cat or a stray. He was sitting in the middle of the backyard and he was crying. He was skinny and dehydrated. His eyes were so hollow that our Vet, when she saw him, decided to wear silicon gloves. He looked terrible
Then the whole sequence of treatment followed. This time three of us go to the doctor. Cat flu. Malnutrition. DAKTYL cannot eat or drink. He cannot chew. Also in this case the battle was long, very long. The virus from this very backyard became proverbial
DAKTYL slowly learned to chew. He started eating chicken and energetic food from Royal sachets.
He fought bravely despite being so skinny and dehydrated. He fought and won. Now, however, he requires a regular liver diet..
DAKTYL has been sterilized. He is not afraid of children. He loves cuddling and, as you can see from the attached photo, he likes sleeping on the computer. He likes people.
KUBU¦
Telephone is ringing. I am answering. I hear a desperate voice in the receiver. I am listening to a story, sad story as usual and as usual full of despair. Allotments in Cracow and stray cats living there. Mrs. Irena feeds the cats but the neighbours poison them or chase them away.
Last winter she found a kitten - Kubus. Frozen almost to death, he was making rattling sounds. She took him home as a good person usually does. She took care of him and tried to cure him of his illness. She gave him injections and medicines. But she cannot do it any longer. Her monthly pension amounts to PLN 500 (Ł 80/$156). She has three her own cats in the flat. She has no money and she has no physical and mental strength to struggle with these problems. What about Kubus? Kubus is still making rattling sounds, breathing heavily and she does not know what to do.
I am thinking deeply about what to do. We need a professional diagnosis whether the cat has any chance to live and what is the disease he suffers from. I am making an appointment for Mrs. Irena to Dr. Orzeł's surgery. She needs to take with her all test results, X-ray photos, information about medicines Kubus has taken. After the results and photos had been verified we already knew that the cat had an eosinophilic pneumonia. HE WILL SUFFER FROM THE EFFECTS OF THIS DISEASE TO THE END OF HIS LIFE. He will have to take dehydrating medicines through all his life.
Decision: starting from that day on AMICUS is responsible for Kubus. Looking at the animal, into his wise and trustful eyes full of hope and directed towards us: the upper race - the human beings, you cannot condemn this animal to death. Death through suffocation. Terrible and long death. Kubus is so dignified, watchful and beautiful. Now he is nearly one year old. He is almost well but he has to take dehydrating medicines from time to time. He is a little cross-eyed but it makes him even more charming.
